Mendez is where I now reside. I have rented a simple room for $30.00 a month, therein I have set up a hammock and with rope a place upon which to hang my clothes. Mendez is well known for its heat but I have enjoyed the climate here,it is reminiscent of a northland summer.(North Island N.Z)
Mendez is a very small village. From my dwelling within two minutes walking distance I can reach all the essential services. There are numerous bakeries who sell delicious hot bread, a dozen restaurants, internet cafes, post office, laundry mat and hardware stores all writhen two minutes. Of course these places are not to be confused with there more modern counterparts, they are distinctly Ecuadorean but very serviceable. The park also is only a block away, Basically I live very near the town centre yet it is though I live in some quite suburb as it is a very laid back and peaceful town. Across from my room there is the river that runs along side Mendez and beyond the river mountains and Jungle, at night there are not even any lights to be seen except for the occasional pulse of the glow bugs.
The people are beginning to learn who I am and why I'm here. I have been becoming well acquainted with some of the locals, sometimes I here called out “hello mister Brendon”. Yes Mendez is a very nice place to be.
Today we preached in one of the satellite villages there upon I helped start and conduct a bible study with a mother and then her daughter and after which she gifted us three bunches of bananas. As we reached the car where we had parked a man walking out of a nearby school (who is an english teacher)invited me to give a speech in english about the bible. I'm thinking of giving a little talk about the importance of the bible and how it can help us make good decisions.
This afternoon at one return visit we where given juice to drink along with huge mandarins and even some excellent chocolate made from his own cocoa plantation for us to try. Besides which we had a very nice discussion on the importance of educating children.
Anyone else want to come to Mendez? If yes the little group here would love to have you.

I Live in this group of houses
I start the day by visiting a restaurant to have some coffee (A cup of hot milk to which you add the coffee usually served with bread and costing 50c) and do some bible reading then I head to the park for some Informal witnessing before heading off to the morning field service group.
The view from within (The building next to the car park is the hospital)
If ones looks closely you can see the colourful group of trees towards the right and behind the church spire, this is the central park which is like a huge round-about. A very pleasant place to be on a hot day. Good for informal witnessing too. In the shadow of the tree which can be seen next to the road is a prime spot as this is where many wait for the bus to arrive or depart.(Every bus coming and going travels via this spot)
The river which cannot be seen is between the buildings and bush behind
After lunch Its time to rest, my room has a constant and very agreeable temperature, it is always cool but never hot or cold thus perfect for a siesta. The river can always be heard and it often makes me thing of the sea. In the evening an hour before sundown I head to the park for more witnessing and enjoy the cool evening air.
There we will conclude our introduction to Mendez
