Tarija

Below is a contribution By Gareth & Lisa

Greetings from Bolivia! Here's a little summary I wrote up...

“it is sunrise here in Tarija, Bolivia. The rooster is crowing. He's only just out of bed - a little late today. Lisa is making bagels. We are staying with a brother and sister (Martin and Louise) who have moved about a year ago from NZ to serve here. They are in the Central congregation and run a language school/b&b to survive. They also do tours and an immigration service for Westerners.  (Handy now that the Branches can only help those in Special Fulltime Service ) Google "altiplano residencial Tarija". Here all the car alarms are too sensitive. So everytime a noisy motorbike passes there is a cacophony of alarms. Also they have a rather interesting way of traffic control. It is largely Give Way. As you approach the corner, you toot your horn. Whomever gets there first has right of way. So there is constant tooting. Tarija also appears to be very entrepreneurial. Everyone has their little cart or stall selling something on these (mostly) clean streets. Leather is cheap. $100 usd for a tailor made jacket from good quality leather. The witnessing is great. We started a study yesterday. People readily accept literature. The two Gilead missionaries here, Russel and Janice, confine themselves to ten studies each. Anyway, big need for elders and servants in Spanish. ”  -Contributed Gareth & Lisa Collard
